Uzbekistan unrest

Looks like something may be hitting the fan, though perhaps only in a minor way, in Uzbekistan. Nathan is on the case.

Here's the latest from
Echo of Moscow radio:

10:48am (MSK) Nine people are dead and 34 injured as a result of riots in the Eastern portion of Uzbekistan, according to the press service of President Islam Karimov. The government states that it is in full control of the situation in Andijon. The rebels who stormed the local jail and freed many inmates have been surrounded at two locations in the city. Negotiations are being conducted with them.
I also heard earlier on Echo that the rioters had taken 10 policemen hostage.
