Kara-su

From Echo of Moscow radio (my translation):

22:06 14.05.2005 The situation in Uzbekistan is still far from being stable.
Currently the ring of government forces is being tightened around the city of Kara-su, where on Saturday several hundred local residents took over the local government building. ITAR-TASS received this information from sources on the Kyrgyz-Uzbek border. According to sources, on the central square of the city on the Uzbek side [of the river that runs through the town] there is an ongoing protest. The protesters have not made any political demands at this time. For now, no gunfire has been heard in the center or on the outskirts of the city.
Nathan has a good post on the situation in Kara-su, including AP pics.
