The Uzbek authorities continue to say that everything in under control - Echo of Moscow radio cited their interview with an Uzbek Ministry of Internal Affairs representative to this effect - however one of the officials let slip to RIA Novosti that the situation in the city is "in flux" ("v dvizhenii") and that soldiers are "conducting an investigation" ("provodiat raz''iasnitel'nye raboty") with the local residents at this time. President Karimov is scheduled to hold a press-conference in 1/2 hour, at 10am Moscow time, perhaps they will have a clearer "official" version of events by then. Interfax is reporting that an eyewitness by telephone reports there is still sporadic gunfire ("it quiets down, and then it strengthens again") around the regional administration building.
This is all from Echo's 9:30 (MSK) news break, sorry for the lack of links - now, I'm off to work. Really this time.
