Thought this festive freebie postcard of a Moscow bridge decked out for a holiday would be appropriate for today - I am up late/early enough to be among the first (if not the only) to wish you Happy Constitution Day!
Yes, December 12th is a Russian federal holiday (observed on the 13th this year) marking the adoption of the Yeltsin constitution, in 1993, I think. The Russian survey outfit FOM ( Fond "Obshchestvennoe Mnenie," or the Public Opinion Foundation) has a great section in English on their website with results from polls asking Russians whether they think this should really be a holiday - many people do not identify with it because it was introduced in the 1990's and has no tradition behind it.
