Anna Arutunyan has an interesting if a bit rambling comment - in English, though! - on the Moscow News website, "Russia's Fair and Balanced Newspapers" - the title is written with a sense of irony - in which she suggests, in a roundabout way, that Russian journalists themselves are in part to blame for some of the problems that plague the contemporary Russian media space.
A friend emailed me a link to a much better piece, this one on the Russian state-run media, available for the time being only in Russian, by commentator Viktor Shenderovich. The article deals with media coverage of the story surrounding the Italian journalist Juliana Sgrena, and covers other territory as well. I am going to try translating it if I have time.
