On the occasion of Irma Pavlis's sentencing date, for those of you who read Russian, here's a link to an entry on Maxim Sokolov's LiveJournal with extensive comments discussing the case and its coverage in Russia.
If it is true, it would not be news. As some of the people commenting on Maxim Sokolov's ZhZh point out, this is standard in the United States. There is no way that the parents of the child organ donor would stand to benefit in any way from this - the organs would be matched up anonymously by the hospital with people on a waiting list for organs. It's actually a fairly good system, although it would work better if more people would volunteer to be organ donors, and it prevents the type of abuses which one reads about taking place in Russia (there was one especially "scandalous" story about this in Vladivostok, if I recall correctly).
I saw the story on Vesti, I think, with no mention of the fact that voluntary organ donation is very common in the US - they were happy to let the implication hang in the air that those evil Americans are adopting Russian kids in order to beat them to death and harvest their organs.
